Die Österreichische Indische Gesellschaft präsentiert "Paintings of the Prabhatalloi Foundation'' - eine Ausstellungseröffnung in Anwesenheit des Künstlers.
The Prabhatalloi Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2010 to serve the people living around the Village Dabar, near Purulia in West Bengal. They offer free services to local villagers, including a primary school, a hostel for needy children and a medical centre that can dispense medicines. They support and manage a sanctuary for lepors. The local people receive all these services for free.
The proceeds from this exhibition will go towards supporting local folk singers, dancers and musicians. The Foundation will offer more hostel places to their children, for times when they cannot keep their children at home, and provide additional tuition for their studies. They will pay for and help to arrange treatment when the artists are ill and provide beds where they can recuperate if need be. The work of the artists brings much national and international acclaim and honour to the region.
But it is a sad fact that they perform out of a Iove for their art and too often make no plans against ill health and their old age.
The Artist Sanjay Kumar Mahato is founder and Secretary of Prabhatalloi Foundation, and responsible for its day to day running. Trained as an economist, he is also an amateur painter and an expert on Raha culture. He has many years experience guiding academics and other visitors around his homeland.
These paintings reflect his unmatched knowledge, experience and appreciation of Raha culture.
